    BOXING HISTORY

HUMANS HAVE FOUGHT IN HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT SINCE THE DAWN OF HUMAN HISTORY.

“There is no such thing as a natural puncher. There is a natural aptitude for punching and that is different. Nobody is born the best. You have to practice and train to become the best.”

    – Cus D’Amato

The earliest depiction of boxing dates back to the 3rd millennium BC in a Sumerian relief (sculpture) in Iraq. Then in 1350 BC a relief sculpture was made in Egyptian Thebes depicting spectators observing a boxing match. Historians believe the middle east enjoyed boxing based on this evidence. The sport then became popular in Ancient Greece. Boxing was first introduced to Greece in the 23rd Olympiad in 688 BC. The Greek fought with leather straps on their hands to protect themselves. Boxing then made its way to Ancient Rome where fights were held at Roman Amphitheaters. In Rome, it was usually a fight to the death to entertain the spectators. Boxing then flowed through London while prizefighting was becoming prominent. Boxing then became a worldwide sport, and now has become one of the largest multibillion-dollar sports today.

Boxing requires both offensive and defensive strategy. An effective offense attack should penetrate the opponents guard with quick and strong punches. Defensive tactics include parrying off punches with your arms and gloves, dodging punches with head movement (bobbing and weaving), evasive body movement using footwork, and much more. The two main stances are “orthodox” and “southpaw”. Each stance leads with a different hand and foot.

Here at the Whitehouse MMA we teach jabs, hooks, uppercuts, crosses, and all other punches necessary to defeat your opponents. We breed champions and are ready to take on any challenge.
