    WRESTLING HISTORY

ONE OF THE MOST USEFUL AND OLDEST FORMS OF COMBAT.

“The 1st period is won by the best technician. The 2nd period is won by the kid in the best shape. And, the 3rd period is won by the kid with the biggest heart.”

    – Dan Gable

The oldest depiction of wrestling dates back to 15,000 years ago in french cave drawings. The sport has always been beloved and practiced in Greece and is the main reason why it’s held a prominent place in the Olympic Games. The ancient Romans adopted grappling styles from the Greek. During the Middle Ages wrestling became popular in France, Japan, and England. British settlers brought a strong wrestling tradition to America, and even the Native Americans began to practice this sport. Amateur wrestling flourished through the United States since then. The first organized national wrestling tournament took place in New York City in 1888. Wrestling is now recognized as one of the most useful disciplines in Mixed Martial Arts.

Wrestling has various styles, and they all involve two competitors trying to force each other to the ground using technique and strength. Each competitor tries to manipulate the other into certain positions, usually on their back for a minimum length of time.

During tournaments our wrestlers make use of skills and techniques learned by consistent practice at this gym. Come to class to learn a series of maneuvers such as attacks, counter attacks, grips, pins, and takedowns. This involves lifting, throwing, tackling, tripping, and twisting your opponent. You’ll learn how to balance leverage and strength to pin your opponents. Wrestling uses all muscles in the body which proves the sport to be an intense and purposeful workout. Come to Whitehouse MMA to become a Champion!

    TRISTAN CUATCHON - HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Personal Background: Born and raised in Central Florida. After graduating from the University of Florida with a bachelors degree in Plant Science, I now work at Tohopekaliga High School as an Agriculture Teacher and coach.

Experience: Wrestling has been a part of my life for the last 11 years. Starting as an 8th grader I completely fell in love with the sport and never looked back. Being a smaller wrestler I had to rely on using sound technique and my longer arms/legs to my advantage.

Experience as a Coach: Right out of college I started volunteering as an assistant coach for Saint Cloud High School under Coach Eric Scrivens. This was where I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Anthony Falotico.

Since then I have helped coach youth wrestling at the White House every Saturday as well as wrestling programs at both Saint Cloud and Tohopekaliga High School.

    Accomplishments: Personal:
    2013 District Champ @ 106 pounds
    4x Regional Qualifier
    Super 32 Qualifier
Completed the 28-day JROB & 14-Day Iowa Intensive Wrestling camp

    Coaching:
Helped coach Saint Cloud to FIVE state qualifiers in 2020.
